Ultrasonographic Finding of Solid Breast Mass

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ultrasound criteria for the differential diagnosis of solid breast masses.
Materials ðods : Pathologically proved 63 cases of the solid breast masses on the ultrasonography were retrospectively analyzed according to the following criteria: margin, internal echo, retrotumoral echo, lateral shadowing, ductal extension, depth/width ratio.
Results : Breast cancers showed irregular margin(83%), hypoechoic(77%), heterogeneous internal echo(94%), and posterior acoustic shadowing(31%). Fibroadenomas showed well defined smooth margin(73%), less than 1.0 of depth/width ratio(100%), and homogeneous internal echo(80%). But fibrocystic disease showed variable sonographic findings.
Conclusion : For differential diagnosis of breast cancer, fibroadenoma and fibrocystic disease, objective sonographic criteria are needed.
